Santorini travel blog

Keep up with SantoriniExperts and learn everything about Oia, Fira and Thirassia island, from useful tips for your trip to suggestions for various activities.

The organization which is responsible for animal protection on the island is the Santorini Animal Welfare Association SAWA.

In collaboration with the municipality and the local veterinarian, stray dogs are cleaned, dewormed and sterilized to be given a home in the shelter. Volunteers take care of the animals until they can find a loving family to offer a forever home in Greece or other European countries for the animals.

SAWA also ensures that stray cats are cleaned and sterilized.

In cooperation with the Donkey Sanctuary Organization of Great Britain, health inspections of working donkeys and mules are carried out, and the old animals can find a quiet, peaceful home in the shelter.

If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat or supporting the shelter financially or help as a flight escort to take the animals to their forever homes, you can do it there.
